HS BOYS SOCCER: Lee’s Strambler, MHS’ VonHolle take superlative honors

Lee senior Darius Strambler and Midland High sophomore Alex VonHolle each earned superlative honors on this year’s 2-5A All-District Boys Soccer team.
Strambler, who has signed to play soccer at Lubbock Christian, was the Offensive MVP and was one of top scorers in the district this season with 17 goals. VonHolle, meanwhile, was the Midfielder MVP and helped to anchor a Midland High attack that scored 42 goals in 16 district games this season. VonHolle also had 10 goals and nine assists also.
A total of six players from Lee and Midland High earned first-team honors on this year’s team.
Will Downing (Sr.), James Behrmann (Sr.) and Homer Vasquez (So.) were all first team selections for the Bulldogs. Lee seniors Cesar Gonzales, Alex Bell and Johnny Baeza all earned first team nods.
Abilene Cooper’s Baha Israfilov was the district’s Most Valuable Player, and Odessa Permian senior Barron Becker was the Defensive MVP. Amarillo Tascosa’s Brayden Fauske was the Goalkeeper MVP and Abilene Cooper freshman Pedro Lira was the Newcomer of the Year.
Amarillo Tascosa coach Tommy Willis was named Coach of the Year.
